Ivory Coast seeks investment loans at China-Africa Forum

China is hosting leaders from African countries for a summit on economic cooperation on September 4. Many political leaders have traveled to the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Beijing, where the roadmap for cooperation between China and Africa for the next three years is to be adopted. One delegation is from Côte d’Ivoire, which has good relations with China and is seeking loans and investment.

For China, the Ivory Coast is an important partner in the West African sub-region. In 2023, the total trade volume between the two nations amounted to $5.28 billion, Chinese Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire Wu Jie told the daily L’Intermaking the Chine the country’s largest trading partner. Beijing mainly imports rubber, cocoa and their derivatives from Ivory Coast.

In addition to infrastructure projects, Côte d’Ivoire has high expectations in the agro-industry sector. The Ivorian government is actively encouraging Chinese private companies to invest there, with high expectations around the transformation of agro-industry and the development of processing units, this official emphasizes.
