Study – Catching up on sleep lost during the week at the weekend could be beneficial for your health… as long as you don’t overdo it

After a busy week, many people decide to sleep in on the weekend. According to researchers at the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases at Fuwai Hospital in Beijing, China, this is a truly healthy habit.

Data from over 90,000 people analyzed

Presented this Sunday at the 2024 edition of the Congress of the European Society of Cardiology, and reported by Eurekalert, their study tends to prove that people who catch up on sleep lost during the week at the weekend reduce their risk of developing heart disease.

In their research, the scientists analysed data provided by 90,903 people who are taking part in the UK Biobank project, which contains the medical records and lifestyle information of half a million citizens. The aim was to focus on the presence or absence of heart diseases, such as ischaemic heart disease, heart failure, atrial fibrillation and stroke.

Prioritize regular, quality sleep
