After a first alert given at the start of the week for the departments of Nord and Pas-de-Calais, Oise is also placed on alert for PM10 fine particle pollution, this Wednesday January 15, 2025.
The Atmo Haut-de-France services provide an alert level on persistence, for suspended dust, for these three departments. “Concentrations of dust suspended in the atmosphere could exceed the regulatory level, set at 50 µg/m3“, indicates the Hauts-de-France prefecture.
Tuesday January 14, particle concentrations were high and exceeded the regulatory threshold of 50 µg/m3 on a daily average in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais.
This episode of pollution is explained by “particle emissions, produced in particular by wood heating and traffic, as well as by weather conditions unfavorable to the dispersion of pollutants (weak winds, very low layers of the atmosphere, etc.) which persist for the day of Tuesday and Wednesday.“
Consequently, measures were taken by the Hauts-de-France prefect to limit the impacts of this pollution.
In the departments of Nord, Oise and Pas-de-Calais, the speed of motor vehicles is limited, until Wednesday January 15 at 11:59 p.m.:
As a preventive measure, it is preferable when traveling to use the least polluting means of transport and to favor public transport and carpooling.
It is also prohibited to burn green waste in the open air and to use non-efficient individual wood heating appliances, supplementary or recreational.
