The Olympic Biarritz continues to rebuild itself and displays its ambitions. Between reorganization, modernization of infrastructures and international opening, the leaders presented their roadmap for the coming seasons during their recent press conference, reported by South West.
Aguilera under construction: a new era in sight
Eight months after the club took over, Shaun Hegarty, Arnaud Dubois et James Coughlan have drawn up an initial assessment. The BO is in the midst of a transformation, with major projects to modernize its stronghold in Aguilera. Among the priorities:
- The installation of a synthetic lawn from next May, designed to host both concerts and matches. A real facelift to make the stadium a lively place all year round.
- The renovation of the Villa Rosea historic building on the plateau, which will become a multifunctional space with offices, clubhouse and VIP areas.
- The recovery of training center from 2025 to better integrate young talents into the club’s project.
The objective? Make Aguilera a stadium that lives up to the ambitions of the BO and offer a first-class environment to its players and supporters.
Heading towards the international: the BO opens up to the world
The BO sees further than the Basque Country. With international projects, the club seeks to strengthen its notoriety and attract promising players:
- A partnership with A drug (Fiji) and Irish academies, to expand its network and train the talents of tomorrow.
- Two friendly matches against Munsterin Biarritz and Limerick, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their European final.
- Participation in international competitions, such as rugby sevens in Dubai, where the BO achieved a good third place.
These initiatives show that the BO does not just want to shine locally, but to establish itself as a player that counts on the international scene.
Finances, sport and ambition: the mid-season assessment
On the financial side, the situation remains tense. Despite a sanction from the ARC (five points removed for missing administrative documents), the club maintains a solid budget, around 9.8 million euros. Support from Pierre-Édouard Stérin and his fund Leisure remains an important pillar, but leaders know they must tread carefully.
On the ground, the BO is making progress. With recruits like Matthew Acebes et Flying Bulletand a transformed locker room, the team is clearly aiming for a place in the top 6 from Pro D2. The results at home are encouraging, even if progress remains to be made away.
The training center remains a key lever for the future. Seeing young people from the region join the first team is a source of pride for the club and a strong sign of identity.
With a clear vision and concrete projects, the Olympic Biarritz advance. Between modernization, sporting ambition and international openness, the club seems ready to write a new chapter in its history and regain its place among the greats of French rugby.
I grew up in a family where rugby was at all times. I was at the edge of the pitch when Castres beat Pau and joined the elite, I was in the Stade Pierre Antoine facing Gary Whetton when he did his Haka to celebrate the 1993 Brennus and I was always rocked legends of this sport. Now, it is with XV Ovalie that I intend to extend the adventure. #TeamCO
