In December 2024, the Morocco is positioned as the Arab country where diesel is the most expensive, with an average price of 1.13 US dollars per liter. This situation represents a considerable burden for the Moroccan population, already facing significant socio-economic challenges.
In the ranking of Arab countries, we observe a great disparity in prices. There Jordan comes in second with $0.95 per liter, followed by Syria to 0.76 dollars, thus showing significant differences between the different countries in the region in fuel oil prices at the pump, therefore impacting the end consumer to a greater or lesser extent.
Diesel prices in the Arab world
Several countries in the Middle East and North Africa have varying prices, including:
- United Arab Emirates: $0.73/liter
- Tunisia: 0.69 dollars/liter
- Lebanon: 0.67 dollars/liter
- Qatar: 0.56 dollars/liter
- Saudi Arabia: $0.30/liter
On the other end of the spectrum, Algeria and the Libya stand out for their particularly low prices. Algeria offers diesel at $0.21 per liter, while Libya has the lowest price in the region at just $0.03 per liter. A price that could actually make certain countries, mainly European, shudder, where as you will see later in this article, prices at the pump are particularly high.
Comparison with the rest of the world
In perspective, the price of diesel Morocco ($1.13) is particularly high compared to international averages. In Europe, prices fluctuate between $1.50 and $2.00 per liter, particularly in France and in Germanywhile in Asia, prices are generally lower: the Japan displays around 1.30 dollars/liter, and the Chine maintains prices around $1.10/liter, similar to those of Morocco.
