The former mayor of Salviac Jean-Pierre Cabanel has left

We were saddened to learn of the death of Jean-Pierre Cabanel, at the age of 84. This former mayor of Salviac was a great gentleman, esteemed and recognized by all. He marked the annals of the town with his commitment and his actions, which have been praised many times by the two mayors who have succeeded him since his retirement ten years ago!

Jean-Pierre Cabanel was a veteran of AFN, French North Africa. He was a municipal councilor from 1976 before taking charge of town hall from 1979 to 2014, the year he decided not to run again. Three essential reasons then motivated this decision. Aged 74, he would have been 80 at the end of a new term. The reforms of the moment, particularly in terms of intercommunality, and the new ballot which was then applied: And finally the opportunity to be replaced by Alain Faucon who was finishing his third mandate as deputy.

The mass for his funeral took place on Saturday December 21 in the Saint-Jacques le Majeur church in Salviac, followed by burial in the village cemetery. The family thanks all the people who, through their presence or their expressions of sympathy, joined in their grief.

An excellent player in Cahors, Gourdon, Figeac

Jean-Pierre Cabanel was not only the brilliant elected official we know, he was also an excellent rugby player in the 1960s! He was notably French champion with the Figeacois Sports Group (GSF), before joining the clubs of Cahors and Gourdon. The GSF sent a condolence card to the family.
In addition, a tribute will be paid to him on October 5, 2025 by the association Friends of the Saint-Louis Notre-Dame de l'ovalie chapel, in the chapel of the same name in Rocamadour.
