Invested in Ariège Rugby for more than 30 years, within the famous Galia XIII then now at the Loups de Pamiers (Elite 2), Christian Claudé has just joined the management team of the French Rugby League Federation from which Dominique Baloup comes to be re-elected for four years.
Dominique Baloup has just been re-elected as head of the French 13-a-side Rugby Federation. Among the 24 names in his new team is Ariégeois Christian Claudé, general secretary of the Loups de Pamiers club. Its role will be decisive in developing the XIII, which has 22,000 licensees in France.
Christian Claudé does not have a magic wand to multiply teams and licensees, but he has a method in mind: “Plough, sow and eventually harvest,” he says. There will be no patron […] Elon Musk style to professionalize our elite. We need to invest in young people.” In his mind, plowing means amplifying volunteering to “create entities in the
departments which do not have them”. Without structure, no players, without team, no dynamic for the XIII. Then, increase the number of territorial agents. Like Pierre Yves Blasi who, in Ariège, introduces rugby league to students from several primary and secondary schools every week. Absolutely necessary shadow work. Finally, strengthen competitions to gain in attractiveness, “expand our presence”. Christian Claudé sees himself, with the support of the youth, women's and para-rugby commission of the Federation, as “a spur to seek out license after license”, which he makes his priority.
30 years serving rugby league
Christian Claudé has been carrying this ambition for 30 years. His first time was in the service of the XIII club of Fleury-Mérogis, in Essonne. Then to the Ile de France Rugby League. Based in Ariège, he chaired for 3 years, from 2007 to 2010, the Gallia Pamiers, the ancestor of the Wolves of which he has been for years, a
efficient general secretary. “Wanting to establish clubs in other regions (than Occitanie) is laudable. Creating a club requires finding at least 20 players and leaders.” Promoting rugby union can involve “lighter formats, such as recreational XIII, or IX”.
Chrisitan Claudé therefore responded to President Baloup's invitation. “The Ariège thirteenth level (Elite 2 this season) and its expansion in terms of team is not unrelated to its solicitation,” modestly admits the new elected official who has four years to prove himself.
