PRO D2 – At the end of a meeting marked by Drôme's indiscipline, the Auvergnats sealed a short success with a score of 18 to 13. It was in the second half that the visitors lost the thread of a meeting that they were in control, the fault in particular of a lack of rigor which led them to play with double numerical inferiority.
New decisive match this evening between two teams busy this season fighting to remain in Pro D2. The Cantaliens occupied 11th position before kick-off while the Drômois were in a slightly more uncomfortable situation with a 15th place. We therefore knew that this meeting was mainly going to be played out in combat zones. And that was more or less the case because what we remember at the end of the matchthese are the numerous cards received by the Damiers who have been penalized many times on the lawn of the Jean-Alric stadium.
Valence Romans is right
By leading 13 to 10 at the break, the visitors had real hopes! And yet, their counter already showed two yellow cards addressed to Pena then Aléo, sanctioned in scrum, sector of play in which the Aurillacois rolled on the Drômois this evening. But for all that, VRDR was ahead on the scoreboard thanks to a well-executed try from Mawalu which responded to the one scored earlier by Coertzen. The boot of the best director of Pro D1, Lucas Meret, then allowed his team to be in front halfway through an open match in which the Auvergnats did not manage to wrap up the game and had even conceded two big chances. 'test not materialized by Damiers lacking realism.
A fatal numerical inferiority
Reduced twice to 14 in the first period, the Drômois finally saw their match change in the 43rd minute of play. After a slightly delayed tackle from Humbert on Seunes, the two men found themselves head to head, stung. But in this game of villains, it was the Drômois who lost everything, giving in to his emotions and sending a headbutt at the Aurillac opener. After viewing the video, the referee had no choice but to send the front row back to the locker room with the red card. From then on, the trend was reversed! Aurillac occupied the field and again and again pushed the Drômois to make mistakes. Just after a yellow card given to Huguen, Papunashvili took advantage of a moment of inattention to quickly play a penalty and dive into the Valentino goal (15/13, 51st). Always under pressure, and suffering from chronic indiscipline, the visitors still managed to stay within gunshot of their opponents. Better still, they obtained a penalty to take the lead again in the 69th minute! But it did not happen because a new inappropriate gesture pushed the referee to show the yellow card against Vial for an elbow. In the process, Lucas Meret obtained new ammunition but at more than 40 meters, the opener failed to find the target. Unable to score another try, the Aurillacois finally assured by adding three points in the last moments, just to seal the victory.
The hole is widening in the rankings
Despite a lackluster match, the Auvergnats had the merit of winning! Thanks to these four points, they put their opponents at bay for survival, starting with Valence Romans! This evening, Stade Aurillacois is therefore 12th in Pro D2 with 6 points ahead of the Drômois who are 14th thanks to this bonus point courageously preserved.
