Pro D2 – “I'm inspired by Russell or Ramos”, concedes Ugo Seunes ()

Ugo Seunes, one of the best players since the start of the season, talks about his arrival in Cantal, his last weeks and explains the reasons for Aurillac's renewed form.

Ugo, have you come down from your clouds after your brilliant performance against ?

Yes the cloud dissipated quickly (laughs). It was just a good match, and the team was there too!

You scored 17 points at the opening but you also played fullback at the start of the season. Which position do you feel most comfortable in?

I've always played fly-half, that's my training. I started playing fullback at two seasons ago but I prefer to play number 10. I like having the balls and organizing the game rather than being pushed back like a fullback. I feel that I have more impact at the opening, but I am aware that I still lack a little speed!

When you were younger, who was your idol at fly-half?

I watched a lot of when I was young but I didn't have any idols. But today, I draw a lot of inspiration from Finn Russell or Thomas Ramos, for example. They are very instinctive players and I try to absorb their qualities.

What is your main area of progress?

I'm trying to improve everywhere but I'm working a lot on the kicking game. I also need to develop physically and finally I would really like to work on my passing. I don't have a great pass yet so it's very important that I progress in this area.

When you arrived from Blagnac, in the National last season, what were your apprehensions about joining Aurillac?

I didn't ask myself too many questions, I had worked well when the Blagnac club was deprived of competition, I had prepared well for shooting on goal and for bodybuilding in particular. I was excited to play rugby again by joining the rotation of a Pro D2 team. Especially since I quickly started at the back, an opportunity presented itself at a position where there were several injured. I listened to people who had already played at Aurillac and I did it by feeling. I fully agree with the values of Stade Aurillacois. We don't have a big star but we have a very strong state of mind.

You remain on three victories in four matches after a difficult start to the season. What has changed?

We showed a lot of aggression and brought in important players who were fresher and who were injured in the first block. The team is more confident mentally and technically.

You are traveling to which is having a very good start to the championship. How are you going to try to upset the Basques?

We prepare like all matches without too much pressure but with the desire to win. Considering their start to the season, they are very confident and undefeated at home. In our last matches we were very disciplined in defense so we will have to do the same with a little more luck and success (laughs).
