Fall Tour – Five Things to Know About Harry Potter (Australia)

Against Scotland, Australian winger Harry Potter will make his international debut with the Wallabies. Discover five things to know about the Australian winger with this well-known surname.

He was born in England

If he will make his debut for Australia this Saturday (2:40 p.m.)it was across the Channel that the future Australian international was born. December 15, 1997, in Wimbledon, in the suburbs of the capital. A Harry Potter in London, doesn’t that remind you of anything? As a youth, he first moved to Brisol, in the west of the country, before migrating to Melbourne, for his parents' work, when he was ten. He was therefore eligible at international level for both selections. But, during his three years at Leicester (2020-2023), he was not called up to the XV de la Rose. Now a Western Force player, he is no longer eligible for England but has become eligible again with the Wallabies…

He hasn't played since March

Harry Potter arrived as the Western Force's flagship recruit for the last Super season, after being one of the executives who led Leicester to the title of English champion in 2022 (26 matches, eight tries in all competitions this season -there). But after just six games, the winger's season ended abruptly following an ankle injury. As a victim of bad luck, he had not made an impression before with five defeats and two yellow cards to his credit, for just one small try.

He must embody the 2027 project

Australia had lost its magic, like its outings unworthy of their rank during the last World Cup and then during the Rugby Championship this summer. But during this fall tour, old wizard Joe Schmidt seems to have found the right recipe to make his Wallabies bounce back. He launched new players who will add depth to the squad and guide the Australians during the 2027 World Cup played at home. There is obviously Joseph Sua'ali'ithe bomb coming from rugby league. But there is also Harry Potter who, under the orders of the New Zealand phoenix, will have to bring to the collective his canes and his experience acquired in the Premiership (67 matches, 20 tries).

He was born at the same time as Harry Potter

Abracadabra, two Harry Potters were born a few months apart. The first opus of JK Rowling's novel series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was released on June 26, 1997. The rugby player came into the world on December 15 of the same year. “I was born shortly after the first book came out, but my parents didn't know about it, so I definitely wasn't named after it. This was also before the movies, when everything became a bit mad”he already explained to the podcast Behind the Ruck. Harry Potter, the Cursed Child…

He wanted to change his name

Obviously, such a surname cannot go unnoticed. Especially since the winger grew up at the same time as the young magic student, in the 2000s. “There was a time when I considered changing it, but it's my name, it sort of defines me, and I wouldn't know what to change it to now. I'm Harry Potter!”
