Sometimes, putting together a Rugby team before a Pro D2 day is a real headache for coaches. In the case of FC Grenoble, before the 10th day of this 2024-2025 championship, it was simpler: almost everyone who is able to play… will play! The Isère club regrets nineteen absences in its squad, before its meeting at Oyonnax on Friday (kick-off at 7 p.m. at the Charles-Mathon stadium).

For this first match in parallel with the Autumn Nations Series, the Grenoble club knew that it had to face the departure of its internationals: the Georgians Mamaiashvili (left pillar), Javakhia (2nd row) and Kveseladze (center), opposed on Sunday to the All Blacks XV (in Montpellier), as well as the Portuguese Thomas (right pillar) and Madeira (2nd/3rd row), hosts of the United States on Saturday in Coimbra.
Added to these are the (too) many injured at the start of autumn in Grenoble. Last week, 2nd line Thomas Lainault (hand fracture, operated on Monday) and 3rd line Pio Muarua (knee, internal ligament) joined Jonker, Soury, Nansen, Sirgel on the list of injured players. B. Ezcurra, Hériteau, Peccaud and other Lestrade, while Eli Eglaine (wrist) and Romain Trouilloud (shoulder) are finishing their convalescence.
Add to that the absences of the U20 internationals (in training at Marcoussis for two weeks, opposed to Italy U20 this weekend), Mathis Baret and Melvyn Rates, and the picture is complete.
The return of Sam Davies
The only good news for the Patrick Pezery and Nicolas Nadau tandem: the end of Sam Davies' convalescence. The Welsh fly-half, recovered from a collarbone injury in September, returns to Pro D2 after five matches in the stands, but as a substitute.
In this very complicated context, the Grenoble coaches only kept seven of the starters against Agen at the Stade des Alpes. And again, the Namibians Richard Hardwick (from flanker to 3rd center line) and Gerswin Mouton (from winger to center) change positions… as they did against the SUA during the game.
Saved last week, flanker Antonin Berruyer and winger Geoffrey Cros find a starting place; in the case of the 3rd line, it will also be with the captain's armband.
Ployet, first as starter… and Baz-Marcos, as substitute
Involved in the good end of the match against the Agenais (37-10), the right pillar Giorgi Pertaia and the back Julien Farnoux will start the match this time.
Already used three times as a substitute, 2nd row Thomas Ployet (on loan from La Rochelle) will start his first match in Rouge et Bleu. While Fijian winger Kaminieli Rasaku finds a place in the starting XV for the first time since September.
On the substitutes' bench, we note the first this season of the young right pillar Théo Lavoine (21 years old, from Albertville), seen once during the 2023-2024 vintage (in Vannes, 17-10).
Among the finishers, he will be supported by another Hopeful, Camille Baz-Marcos (20 years old, trained at RC Matheysin), who will cover the 2nd line position for his baptism of fire in Pro D2.
