Top 14 (6th day). – RC : 26-24

Vannes revives a direct opponent

This defensive bonus point has a very bitter taste for RC Vannes. “We’re scuttling ourselves,” lamented Maxime Lafage lucidly at the microphone of Canal +, at the end of a match which left the people of Vannes a lot of regrets. Faced with a Montpellier in full doubt, the RCV, despite a great burst of energy from the 23 players, missed the opportunity to win their first away match in the Top 14. On the contrary, the Bretons, who were still ahead in the 73rd (23-24), relaunched a competitor in the fight for maintenance, well led by an almost perfect Léo Coly at the foot (13 points).

13: we had to wait until the 13th minute to see RC Vannes cross the halfway line and finally put a spike in the Occitan camp. Unfortunately, the Bretons had conceded ten points: a penalty from Coly (3′) and a try from Hounkpatin converted by Coly (11′). A delay in lighting which is the bad habit of the Vannes residents, despite being encouraged this Saturday from the bench by their coach Jean-Noël Spitzer for the first time this season, and which has already cost them dearly and quite a few points against the Stade Français, or even Racing.

Ayarza strikes from the start

Center shifted to the wing, this Saturday, Inaki Ayarza (25 years old) did not miss his first match in the colors of RCV. The Chilean international (14 caps) scored Vannes’ first try of the day in the 17th minute, cementing Vannes’ domination by mystifying an MHR defender. And, like his recovery from a bad kick from Hogg, in the rain, the brother of Ramon and Vicente – other Chilean internationals – demonstrated all his vista with the ball in his hands and, also, in defense during 80 minutes. The recruit from Soyaux-Angoulême has made his mark!
