Oscars Midol – Aaron Smith, Jonny Wilkinson, Dan Carter… Stars, legends, gold

The 71st Rugby Oscars Ceremony will bring together the world’s rugby elite on November 4. Behind the scenes, things are happening…

The countdown to the 71st Olympic Rugby Midi Oscars ceremony is launched: on Monday, November 4, in at Place Vendôme, at the Pavillon Cambon, part of the world rugby elite will meet for the great international oval mass. We will celebrate first and foremost French rugby, that of a flawless journey for certain clubs and their biggest stars, then the tricolor exploits of the All Blacks and the legends of this sport over several decades. The French Rugby Federation is very widely associated with the event, through all its components.

Under the leadership of the main organizer of the evening Philippe Oustric and his team, nearly 200 people are working to ensure the success of the event. The figures speak for themselves: 500 privileged people, including 300 decision-makers, 40 internationals, big stars of the present or of the past, big names, 30 great sports champions and Olympic medalists…

Eight Oscars will be awarded : the Midi Olympique Golden Oscar which recognizes the player of the year, the Silver Oscar, the Bronze Oscar, the Espoir Oscar which rewards the best young Frenchman of the season in the making, who will be celebrated by the Air and Space Force, very present among young people. Obviously, the very popular Women’s Oscar will be joined, and this is a first, by the Amateur Oscar!

The novelty: the Amateur Oscar

All French fans have been asking for it for a long time: this recognition coupled with reward serves as a reminder, if necessary, that our rugby would not be much without all these small exemplary clubs, the seeds of our stars and our most beautiful rugby.

This Amateur Oscar, the first of the name carried by TotalEnergies and the FFR who work together throughout the country, particularly among young people, training takes on its full meaning, at the time of honoring the biggest world stars.

Finally, of course, the Europe and World Oscars, an unmissable event for all these great nations which have shone across the entire planet, we inevitably think of the South African world champions. The die is cast, the votes are very close…

It was the same for the selection of the famous pairs of foreign and French halfbacks who will be particularly honored, both by the game played and the performances achieved for their respective nation.

Six world champion pairs!

The secret of the selection, voluntarily open to the world, has been jealously guarded, but it is a safe bet that the greatest 9s in the history of this game and their alter ego in 10, are there, for many: a dream plateau looms, it remains to know the lucky ones… Matt Dawson, Aaron Smith, Nick Farr-Jones, George Gregan, David Kirk, Conor Murray, Faf de Klerk in 9; Jonny Wilkinson, Dan Carter, Michael Lynagh, Stephen Larkham, Jonathan Sexton, Handré Pollard in 10… Names, once associated, which have made more than one nation dream! Six world champion pairs should be there.

The biggest French hinges will also be there, starting with the most recent one that the world envies: Antoine Dupont and Romain Ntamack. But who has forgotten these immense players who were Richard Astre, Pierre Berbizier, Jérôme Gallion, Fabien Galthié of course and our best ten Jean-Pierre Romeu, Franck Mesnel, Christophe Lamaison and others?

Surprises to wait for…

There will be surprises in the room, stars have been announced, many Olympic medalists too… The formidable Oscar, a work created and imagined by the icon Jean-Pierre Rives last year, has produced some small ones. It will be in place next week, the same goes for the three-star menu, imagined and concocted, under a Potel Chabot cover, tested this Wednesday in Paris, before the culinary show announced and served to forty tables. To hope to reach the stars and the excellence of a great celebration, you must above all be demanding.
