RUGBY. TRANSFER. TOP 14. A young South African talent in the sights of Stade Rochelais?

After refuting rumors of Damian McKenzie’s arrival and being linked to Makazole Mapimpi, Stade Rochelais could be ready to make another South African bet.

According to information from RugbyPassSuleiman Hartzenberg, versatile back of the Stormers, would now be in the sights of the Maritimes. A potential transfer which would revive the speculation surrounding recruitment.

Hartzenberg, aged just 21, is already a name making noise in South Africa. A U20 international, the Capetonian has scored 12 tries in 36 appearances for the Stormers.

His contract, however, runs until 2027, which would make his arrival at La Rochelle complicated, unless there is a contract buyout or a medical joker role.

This last point could be the key to this transfer. Indeed, La Rochelle must make up for the absence of Raymond Rhule, injured for several months. Hartzenberg could then bring his speed and talent as a medical wildcard.

A versatile player, he can play on the wing as well as in the center, a flexibility that could please Ronan O’Gara. Would Stade Rochelais, which has already denied the rumors about Damian McKenzie, be ready to take out the checkbook?

The possible retirement at the end of the season of Habs Brice Dulin, who looms like a shadow, could accelerate the process. A transfer from Hartzenberg would make it possible to prepare for the next generation, while ensuring the continuity of the La Rochelle dynamic.
