How did the Englishman Luke Griffiths end up as a Espoir at CA Brive? “I contacted Pierre-Henry Broncan on Linkedin”

After contacting the bold Brive manager and proving himself during three days of tests, the 18-year-old English second row signed a 3-year contract at the CA Brive center of excellence.

Holder during the first two days of the championship, Luke Griffiths wasted no time in blending into the CA Brive Espoirs collective.
It must be said that from the height of his double meter, weighing 122 kg, this 18-year-old Englishman has a reassuring presence in the second row.

“I have not always evolved in this position. When I was younger, I played third center line and even pillar. Growing up, I found myself second in line. It’s my favorite job, the one where there are the most contacts and where we can do stupid things,” says the big guy without losing the big smile that covers his face.

Mont-de-Marsan – Brive: It’s time for your notebook

Luke Griffiths is not the type to take himself seriously. Nor to ask too many questions. When he wants something, he goes for it. That’s how he ended up in Brive, taking the bull by the horns. Or rather by sending a message on Linkedin.

The Brive Espoirs receive , this Saturday, 3 p.m., Soubira field, in the following composition: Noon; Lefranc, Fabien, Rayeur, Biasotto; (o) Keleteona, (m) Tochon; Lestro, Geneste, Malaterre; Karst, Lavergne; Moala, Algay, Lager. Substitutes: Siciliano, Tesseyre, Griffiths, Seguy, Betaillon, Broncan, Masse, Arabouli.

“I directly contacted Pierre-Henry Broncan. I sent him my highlights, my CV. He discussed it with Sébastien Bonnet and last summer, they asked me to come and do three days of testing. At the end of the three days, I signed up for three years with the Brive Training Center,” rewinds Griffiths, who came to rugby at the age of 6.

In selection for Hampshire

“My father always loved rugby and all my friends played it at the Farnham club. That’s where I started and where I’ve always played in addition to the rugby I played at school. I also had several selections with Hampshire County which allowed me to progress. »

Although he is far from his family, Luke Griffiths seems fully fulfilled in Brive. “Everyone at the club has been super welcoming. When I had a question or was missing something, I would send a text and boom, it was fixed. And then this Espoir championship is really great, I’m having a blast,” breathes the one who works on his French for an hour a day. Next May, he will have to take an exam in the language of Molière.
