While this Saturday, the RCT finds Mayol, the mystery remains as to who will succeed Christophe Charaut. The restaurateur announced that he was hanging up the microphone two weeks ago (read our December 21 edition). And since then, there has been radio silence from the club on the identity of the person who will push “the terrible war cry” at the stadium.
The suspense is at its height before discovering the new face of Pilou Pilou. Will the organizers choose an exceptional guest for a unique performance? We remember that a few years ago Charles Berling or even José Garcia and Michaël Youn took part in the game…
HAS Var-morningwe have chosen to let you speak. And 200 of you took part in our consultation. The question asked was simple: who do you want to see launch the Pilou Pilou in Mayol? The responses were multiple. Some even advocate the idea of abandoning this ritual. “The Coupo Santo is much better than this ridiculous ceremony”even assumes a reader.
Those we didn't expect
Some proposals may have surprised you. The name d’Hubert Falcoformer mayor of Toulon and supporter at heart, returned several times. Just like that of the former president of the RCT, Mourad Boudjellal.
Some respondents hope to see a woman replace Christophe Charaut. “Rugby is becoming more feminine. That could be logical”argues one of them.
Others took the side of humor to answer our question. Michael Jackson, Joe Dassin or encore Jimmy Somerville are thus mentioned. Our two journalists specializing in rugby Florian Dalmasso and Pierrick Ilic-Ruffinatti are also among the lucky ones.
Spontaneous applications
Many of you took advantage of the questionnaire to submit your applications. “Why me? Because Toulon! Since I was very young, I have been an unconditional fan of the RCT”explains a reader. Another assures: “It’s my childhood dream. And what’s more, I have a powerful voice.”
Your favorites
Several of the people consulted would like to see a former player officiating at the microphone. The names by Eric Champ and Thierry Louvet come back a lot. “Or otherwise, the current players would have to do it, it would be a sort of Toulon-style haka.”someone even suggests.
But the one who wins almost all the votes is Cedric Abellon. The former Pilou Pilou pitcher (between 2008 and 2019) has visibly left fond memories. “He always knew how to chant our anthem, with heart, rage in his stomach and all the love he has for rugby and Toulon!”, “He’s the best, he had it in his blood” or even “He's the only one who knows how to make Mayol vibrate.” et “Cédric, it’s emotions with each Pilou Pilou”, can we read among your comments.
Rest assured, the question will be decided at 2:30 p.m., just before kick-off.
