RUGBY. Jack Willis chooses his ”Playstation” team from the Top 14 with an untouchable Dupont

Resting this week after his big performances with Stade Toulousain in the Champions Cup, Jack Willis took part in the coach’s game as part of his compatriot Danny Care’s podcast. And his ideal Top 14 XV does not lack talent… and teammates.

Stade Toulousain in force

Out of fifteen players, there are only four players who are not currently wearing the Toulouse jersey. Starting with two elements from Stade Rochelais: Uini Atonio and Will Skelton.

The solid Australian is lined up alongside Tricolore Meafou. A second line which would overshadow the “Expendables”. The Wallaby is the only non-Toulouse in the pack. Willis has indeed chosen Baille, Mauvaka, Jelonch, Roumat and Cros to form a formidable front eight. Some people would probably have added one or two other exterior elements. But we cannot blame the Englishman whose opinion is biased by the fact that they come into contact with them on a daily basis.

But if there is one choice that cannot be contested, it is that of Antoine Dupont in the scrum. “He is in the running for the title of best number 9 in history“, confides Willis. Although the Englishman knows what he is capable of, he continues to be amazed by his performances.

Dupont, what else ?

Starting with his three tries scored in a few minutes against Clermont even though he hasn’t played in the Top 14 for several weeks. But what surprised the Englishman the most was the speed of the Habs.

“He’s not very big, but he can run 35 km/h. It’s not something you expect to see when you look at it. That’s the speed of a winger.“ Added to this is a passion for rugby and a desire to surpass himself which means that he currently dominates the oval planet in his position. “He likes to test things and take risks. Sometimes it doesn’t work. But over time, the gap between failures and successes is getting smaller and smaller.“.

Alongside Dupont, Willis places Romain Ntamack, but also Ahki in 12, Kinghorn in 11 and Ramos in 15. While Bayonne’s Maqala and Bordeaux’s Penaud join this “playstation” team. Would you have made the same choices as the Englishman?
