The Oyonnax and Provence Rugby clubs, which employ Rory Grice and Chris Farrell on one side, and Loïck Jammes on the other, communicated on the judgment pronounced this Friday evening. But no decision has been made yet.
The Oyonnax rugby press release has the merit of being succinct. Three lines which indicate that the club “takes note of the judgment pronounced this Friday, December 13 by the Gironde Assize Court concerning Rory Grice and Chris Farrell”. The two players employed by the Ain club since 2017 and 2023 were respectively sentenced to 12 years in prison for gang rape and 4 years in prison, two of which were suspended for failure to assist a person in danger. “The club informs that it will communicate in the coming days concerning the consequences of the Assize Court’s judgment on the future of the two players.”
This release, although not very informative, echoes that of Provence rugby, which communicated this Friday evening at 9:30 p.m., shortly after the announcement of the decision. Loïck Jammes, at the club since 2019, was sentenced to 14 years in prison for gang rape. There too, the club “has taken note of the verdict” but goes further: “Faced with the seriousness of this matter, we would first like to express our sincere thoughts for the complainant and reaffirm our commitment against any form of violence. The club obviously respects the possibility of appeal in this matter. In accordance with our values and our responsibilities, we reserve the right to make additional decisions based on future legal developments.”
As a reminder, the three players in question left FC Grenoble after the events, in the summer of 2017.
