Both teams had to face heavy rain throughout the match. Barreau allowed his team to score quickly by scoring two penalties in the first 10 minutes. The Hérault opener was very inspired on a diagonal foot to find Darmon who combined effectively with Tambwe to send his winger to the test in the 12th minute.

Marco Tauleigne hit the nail on the head in the 19th minute after a broken arm in a scrum 5 meters away. Basham allowed Newport not to linger for very long behind a long series of Welsh charges in the 26th minute. Montpellier then seemed absent from the debates and O'Brien drove home the Welsh revival by diving into the Hérault goal at the siren. Despite a winning start, the Hérault residents returned to the locker room with only 4 points in advance.

The second half started in increasingly terrible weather and this did not help the two teams to play. O'Brien missed a capital penalty in the 45th minute. Montpellier spent the last 20 minutes braced in front of its goal line and the Welsh did not succeed in deceiving the Hérault defense. After a final video call, Mr. Ferreira confirmed the Hérault victory after 80 disappointing minutes in the face of unpredictable weather.
