The accident occurred when a test had just been registered. The bar connecting the poles then collapsed, seriously affecting one of the protagonists of the meeting.
The consequences of the accident, as rare as it was unexpected, could have been much more serious. The incident occurred last Sunday, November 24, in Trinidad and Tobago, during a meeting of the North American Rugby sevens championship, between the local selection and that of Mexico.
Barely three minutes after kick-off, with the score 0-0, the Mexican team took charge, and the number 9 of the selection, Diego Ramirez Aguilar, headed towards the goal to try to score and give his team the advantage.
But in a defensive gesture of last resort, a Trinidadian opponent tries to stop him and slightly unbalances the Mexican in his race. Consequence: the latter then hits one of the goal posts. Under the shock, the crossbar collapsed and fell violently on the head of Diego Ramirez Aguilar.
-An extremely rare scene. “Craziest injury I’ve seen!” a rugby sevens follower then exclaims on X. A few hours later, an image of the player's skull injury, very impressive, is relayed on this same social network.
