The Irish's last home victory against the Pumas dates back to the 2021 Autumn Nations Series, where they comfortably dominated the Pumas 53-7. However, Argentina remain a formidable team, with three victories in four World Cup encounters, the most memorable of which came in the 2015 quarter-final in Cardiff. Despite Ireland's favorite status at the time, the Pumas inflicted a crushing defeat (43-20), a shock that left its mark.

Felipe Contepomi, the iconic Argentina coach, is well known to Irish rugby fans. A former Pumas fly-half, he has more than 80 international caps and has scored 651 points throughout his career.
