Amateur rugby – National 2: nothing is going well at AS Fleurance, which is sinking in the Basque Country against Anglet

Fleurance can’t do it. Beaten four times in the first five matches, the ASF players lost once again this Sunday afternoon in the Basque Country (41-20). They only lasted forty minutes against AORC, before exploding and conceding five tries in the second half.

Under an almost summer temperature, the first period never reached peaks, technically or in terms of intensity. The “Angloys” did not see the ball at the start, but they held firm in defense, before Téo Lascubé, on a carried maul, opened the scoring after a quarter of an hour of play (5-0 , 14th).

The opener from Fleurance, Calmettes, after missing a first attempt (9th), adjusted the sights halfway through this first act, to reduce the gap in the score (5-3, 19th). The Gers team did not come far from taking the advantage, but Lefort’s try, well served by Mondoulet, was canceled after a forward move (25th); and two minutes later, the team coached by Walter Desmaison played in numerical superiority, since Enzo Labadie took a yellow card for a foul on the ground (27th).

Fifteen against fourteen, the ASF insisted, always close to the opposing goal and Cantaloup quite logically gave the advantage to his team (5-10, 30th). A lost touch by the Gersois and a personal exploit from Jules Vanheye, however, allowed the AORC to catch up. At the break, the teams were back to back (10-10).

And then, everything collapses for the ASF…

The rest of the meeting, for the ASF, was relatively complicated. The visitors, after spending almost the entire first period in the opposing camp, were unable to escape the pressure put on by the AORC over the next 40 minutes. They made waves and conceded five tries in the second half, in force (twice) or on the outside.

“At half-time, I told the guys that we were in the match, that there was no reason to doubt. As soon as we managed to increase the playing time, we put them in difficulty, we created an imbalance, but we did not leave the locker room”, regretted Walter Desmaison at the final whistle.
