This weekend is the fifth day of Pro D2. Biarritz should follow up with a home game against Grenoble, while Oyonnax could well win the clash against Provence Rugby… Here are our predictions for this fifth round of the second division!
Biarritz – Grenoble
On the Montauban pitch, Biarritz lost their first match of the season on the last day. Still ahead with a few seconds to go, the Biarritz team paid dearly for an error by Enzo Selponi. The fly-half sent a goal kick straight into touch, giving their opponents the last possession with a five-metre scrum. That’s how beat this 2024-2025 version of BO is hard. Opposed to a flamboyant FCG in the opening at Nevers but purring sincethe Basques should keep Aguilera inviolate.
Our prediction: BO victory
Mont-de-Marsan – Brive
Stade Montois has finally won his first victory of the seasonby winning on the Chanzy pitch, against SAXV. The Landais want to continue to finish this block on a positive note. But here is who is coming to Mont-de-Marsan: Brive and its armada of stars. Co-leaders of the division with ASBHthe Coujoux will want to finish this first block alone on the throne.
Our prediction: CAB victory
Aurillac – Béziers
Despite several injuries, the Aurillacois had made a rotation to travel to Brive, where they suffered a heavy defeat. But the Cantaliens showed that they had the answer. Despite an initial setback at Jean-Alric against SAXV, Romeo Gontineac’s men recovered by defeating FCG on their pitch (42-19). The Biterrois, although co-leaderswill not be on conquered lands on a pitch that has not been very successful for them (only one success in the last eleven years, in 2019).
Our prediction: success for Stade Aurillacois, defensive bonus for ASBH
Nice – Colomiers
Having been heavily beaten in Oyonnax during their last outing with a revamped team (52-3), the Niçois will have to take points at home to hope to get out of the red zone. They will also have revenge to take, having been beaten on the Côte d’Azur by Béziers and then by Soyaux-Angoulême. Opposite, Colomiers has proven its reliability away from home this season with a success at Mont-de-Marsan and a defensive bonus brought back from Dax. If the Landes do well at Columérins, it will be necessary to reproduce these performances in the Alpes-Maritimes.
Our prediction: Nice wins, Colomiers takes the defensive bonus
Dax – Soyaux-Angouleme
USD starts its season as it started last year. In the wake of the revelation Noah Nenethe Dacquois suffered their first setback on the last day, losing to Grenoble, due to a try scored by the FCG just a few minutes from the end of the match… Opposite, SAXV has a special start to the season with two home losses but also two away wins. But continuing their good run away from home will be tough for the Angoumoisins…
Our prediction: Dax success
Valence-Romans – Agen
Promoted in an exciting way (as reflected in its bonus successes against Biarritz and Brive) and never really worried by the red zone last season, the VRDR is in more difficulty for its second consecutive year in the elite. After four days, the Drômois have still not won this season. Beaten by Béziers after the siren, at home, on the third day, Fabien Fortassin’s players will finally want to start their season. Opposite, a SUA which comes out of a rather accomplished performance against Nevers.
Our prediction: victory for VRDR, defensive bonus for Agen
Nevers – Montauban
Nevers’ start to the season has clearly not been good. But we must not forget that Nevers have played the best in Pro D2 from the very first matches. Oyonnax, Brive, Grenoble: all played against Xavier Péméja’s men. So yes, morale may be affected as evidenced by this very disappointing defeat in Agen but the Yellow and Blue will try to bounce back at home. At Pré-Fleuri, they welcome a Montauban who has heartlike the last-second victory against Biarritz. This match could be tight.
Our prediction: Nevers victory
Provence Rugby – Oyonnax
This is the big shock of this fifth day of Pro D2. Oyonnax, relegated from the Top 14 last season, travels to Aix to face the last semi-finalists of Pro D2. This duel will be particularly interesting to follow since neither team has so far managed to make a move away. The Oyomen will therefore be eager for success to climb the rankings. But the Provençaux, always very hard to beat at home, do not hear it that way. A close match is to be expected.
Our prediction: Oyonnax victory, defensive bonus for Provence Rugby
