The ceremony room at the funeral home was too small on Monday afternoon to accommodate the many people who came to pay tribute to Quentin Gobet, the 27-year-old rugby player who died after an accident on Friday, September 13.

In the parking lot, vans decorated with the colors of the rugby clubs that crossed the career of the player from Roanne. Ten days after the collision, there were more than a hundred to honor the memory of the player, friend or family member.

The various speeches must have resonated outside so that everyone could hear, representing rugby, from Niort to Roanne via Valence and Lyon.

Among those who spoke, the president of Niort Rugby club, where the young full-back played, spoke of the accident which cost the rugby player his life, where the driver who caused the collision was then arrested after fleeing the scene.

Niort president Gilbert Nasarre highlighted the gap between the “terrible” accident and the personality of the rugby player, “always ready to help, humble, understanding…”

A tribute to Roanne on October 13

Praise that echoes that presented by his family, his friends and the president of the Roanne club, Gérard Gacon. He underlined the “joie de vivre” that animated Quentin Gobet. And admitted that he hoped for a return of the player to his Roanne club with age.

His training club, ASR XV, will pay tribute to him on Sunday October 13, when they host Billom, exactly one month after the tragic accident.
