“I got destroyed so much”, a nugget tells of his difficult beginnings and the help of Servat

He has come a long way since his arrival in 2017. Arriving in as a young American hopeful, David Ainu’u took some time before establishing himself with Stade Toulousain. For several months, the pillar has been gaining experience and making a place for himself in the rotation of the red and black club. Capable of playing on the right as well as the left of the scrum, Ainu’u continues to progress. However, the beginnings were difficult for the one who arrived from the United States. For Rugby NewsDavid Ainu’u recalled his first more than difficult steps with the hopefuls: “I remember my first match against , I think there was a front row of Georgians in front of me. I got demolished for half an hour! I got destroyed so much that I found myself sitting in the dressing room wondering if I was made for this.”

Ainu’u pays tribute to Servat

Finally, David Ainu’u was patient and was able to progress, notably thanks to William Servat, his former forwards coach: “If there is one person I have to thank for getting me to where I am, it is William. He more or less taught me how to play rugby again, how to hold a scrum, how to survive in this club and even more so in this championship.” A fine tribute from the 24-year-old pillar to “La Bûche”, now a key member of Fabien Galthié’s staff and the French XV.

To summarize

A young Stade Toulousain player recalled his difficult beginnings when he arrived in France and highlighted the role of William Servat in his progression. David Ainu’u has since progressed well to gradually establish himself.
