The food giant Ferrero, market leader with its famous Nutella, has just marketed a new version without milk or dairy products. Vegan diet fans should therefore be able to succumb to temptation! But is this new spread interesting from a nutritional and environmental point of view? Let’s take stock!

What does Nutella Plant Based contain?

Called “Plant Based”, this new version of the famous hazelnut spread is recognizable by its light green cap. Entirely vegan, it has just arrived on supermarket shelves, on the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the iconic Nutella. The brand is thus showing its desire to attract new consumers “who choose to reduce or avoid products of animal origin, whether for reasons of diet or lifestyle”. To make its spread vegan, Ferrero has therefore banned milk and replaced it with two plant-based ingredients, chickpeas and rice syrup. Products selected to offer the same sweetness, the same texture and “guarantee the unique experience of Nutella”, the managers are pleased to say. In addition to these legumes and rice syrup, this new Nutella also contains low-fat cocoa, sugar, hazelnuts (13%), but also, and always, palm oil….
