Véronique, 52, met Stefano, 29, in 2021 by chance during the young thirty-something’s studies: “Our first contact took place on AIRBNB, I was renting a room in my villa, in March 2021. The villa was 500 meters from the wine estate where he was studying oenology on a work-study program. I remember picking him up at the bus station 10km from my home. He was very grateful that I went to pick him up with all his luggage. Stefano is Franco/Mexican, and speaks very little French. I helped him a lot with his thesis and little by little, a bond developed. He was so nice that, little by little, I introduced him to my friends and family. When summer came, I wanted to take him out so that he could meet young people his age, or even meet a girlfriend. But I think he already had his sights set on me. We got closer naturally without to ask questions despite our age difference. It was during a party on September 18, 2021 where we were both, that he approached me and kissed me.”
Their age difference is no problem, neither for Stefano and Véronique, nor for their loved ones: “Stefano was aware of it but he liked me and he felt good with me. He told me, we didn’t meet at the right time, I have a young body with an old mind… And even if Stefano was the same age as my boys, they totally accepted him.”
“He died at 31”
With great energy, the couple imagines a future together, far from the borders of France: “After validating his oenology diploma, we planned to go to Mexico. We wanted to move forward together despite this age difference… Our project was to settle in Mexico in order to produce a cosmetic oil made from cactus.”
But on August 7, 2023, tragedy separated them: “He died at the age of 31 of a heart attack. On August 7, 2023, I left him at 6:45 p.m. to go see my dog who was hospitalized in a veterinary clinic, to take her for a little walk, I returned home at 7:20 p.m. and found him on the ground, I thought he had lain down and fallen asleep (it was very hot) and then the horror. He has gone into the invisible world, I have many signs from him, and I know that we will meet again… He passed through my life like a shooting star. I spent 2 magnificent years that will remain forever engraved in my life.”
When we ask Véronique what her best memory with Stefano is, she admits that she doesn’t necessarily have a particular moment in mind: “I don’t really have a best memory, we had such a good time. I would say maybe his first kiss.”
Véronique is convinced that Stefano is her last love but she still had the advice of a clairvoyant who predicted another future for her: “After his death, I went to see a medium (strangely she gave me an appointment for September 18, 2023, our 2 year anniversary!) and he is preparing a beautiful meeting for me.”
According to a study by INSEE, 6 out of 10 men are older than their partners, but only 8% of couples have an age difference of more than 10 years.
