At the end of the musical film that lasts a little over 2 hours, Lady Gaga (Harley Quinn) and Joaquin Phoenix (The Joker) were warmly cheered by the audience. They talked at length during the applause, as you can see in the videos posted on X.
The delighted American singer blew a kiss to the crowd and hugged her fiancé, Michael Polansky, twice during the ovation. Chants such as “Ga-ga, Ga-ga” or “Gaga we love you” were heard, specifies THR. As for Joaquin Phoenix, adds Variety, he left after nine minutes.
Both a musical and a trial film
Joker: Madness for Two is part of the continuity of the Joker released in 2019, which received the Golden Lion at Venice to everyone’s surprise. Director Todd Phillips nevertheless affirmed that this second feature film was not a sequel to the first.
The film, which includes many sung passages, returns to the meeting between Harley Quinn and the Joker in Arkham Asylum after the latter killed five people. It is also a trial film, since the Joker is taken from the institution where he was interned to answer for the murders he committed.
