A young Turkish-American woman was fatally shot in the head on Friday during a protest against Israeli settlements in Beita, in the northern occupied West Bank, where the Israeli army acknowledged having opened fire. Pending further information on the matter, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken deplored a “tragic loss”.

The United States is turning its attention to the occupied West Bank after the death of one of its citizens. A young Turkish-American woman was fatally wounded by a bullet to the head on Friday, September 6, during a demonstration against Israeli settlements in Beita, where the Israeli army admits to having opened fire.

She “arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the head and we pronounced her dead around 2:30 p.m.” (1130 GMT), he told AFP by telephone from Jerusalem.

“We mourn this tragic loss,” U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken told reporters in the Dominican Republic, where he is visiting.
