MISCELLANEOUS FACTS – “For me, legally, this return to France means the end of the prosecutions.” The French lawyer for the French rugby team players Hugo Auradou and Oscar Jégou spoke this Wednesday, September 4 in C to You following the arrival of the two men, accused of rape in Argentina, in France.

In “Envoyé Spécial”, the woman who accuses rugby players Auradou and Jegou of rape gives her testimony

“The prosecution and the judges have noted that the objective elements of the investigation meant that this accusation could not succeed. We do not bring people back to France if we think that they have committed the acts of which they are accused.”said Antoine Vey.

Two months after the alleged events, Hugo Auradou and Oscar Jégou arrived in France on Wednesday evening and left Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport through a back exit, thus avoiding passing in front of the journalists present in large numbers in the terminal.

Both players still deny the facts.

On Tuesday, the two players who deny the facts were given the green light to leave Argentina during a hearing – in their absence – at the Mendoza court. The justice followed the recommendations of the prosecution according to which the accusation has “ lost its initial strength”.

Auradou and Jégou remain charged with aggravated rape because it was committed in a group. The alleged events occurred on the night of July 6-7 in a hotel room in Mendoza, where the French XV had just won a test match against Argentina, the first selection for the two players.

The green light given for a return to France is accompanied by “ rules “ : to appear if summoned to the Argentine consulate in France, to be heard in virtual mode “ as often as required”or even return “ to report to Mendoza (1,000 km from Buenos Aires) if requested to do so.”.

A request for dismissal examined

“They must each pay bail of 10 million pesos (around 9,500 euros). They must also provide the public prosecutor with a fixed address in France, provide a telephone number on which they can be reached by videoconference as well as an e-mail address and report when necessary to the Argentine embassy in France.”added German Hnatow, another of their lawyers, on Argentine television.

A request for dismissal, filed by the players’ lawyers last week, must now be examined by the courts. “I have no doubt that we will get it in about 10 working days, but today these boys had to go back to their country”said Mr. Cuneo Libarona. If the dismissal were established, the case would this time be definitively closed.
