Several activists and feminist associations are calling for demonstrations across France on Saturday, September 14, “in support of Gisèle Pelicot and all rape victims.”

Hundreds of women have been showing their support for Gisèle Pelicot on social media since the opening of the so-called Mazan rape trial on Monday, September 2. Now, they plan to take to the streets. Several feminist activists called on Wednesday, September 11, for rallies on Saturday, September 14, in support of “Gisèle Pelicot and all rape victims.”

Since Monday, September 2, an extraordinary trial has been taking place in Avignon. Dominique Pelicot, 71, is appearing for having drugged, raped and recruited strangers to rape his wife. In addition to the latter, 50 men are to be tried for “aggravated rape”. They are craftsmen, electricians, ex-police officers or journalists.

“91% of rapes happen in the entourage. The victims are your friends, your wives, your sisters, your mothers, your grandmothers. The perpetrators are your friends, your husbands, your brothers, your fathers, your grandfathers,” wrote feminist activist Anna Toumazoff on social media. “Does it affect you, disgust you, scandalize you, revolt you? Don’t be like those who said nothing. Choose your side. Join us,” she urges.
