Sabrina Carpenter | “Short n’ Sweet”

What Else ? Discovered on Disney Channel but revealed to the international public with her album “Emails I Can’t Send” in 2022, Sabrina Carpenter has truly exploded this year around the world with the huge summer hit “Espresso”, which has 1.2 billion streams on Spotify. A pop, summery and formidable title but without much personality. So what is really behind this phenomenon and does her new album “Short n’ Sweet” live up to it? It is clear that Sabrina Carpenter has put all the odds on her side by calling on an army of renowned producers for this commercial offensive, which is still her sixth studio album! With Julian Bunetta (One Direction), John Ryan (Maroon 5), Ian Kirkpatrick (Dua Lipa, Selena Gomez…) and Jack Antonoff (Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey…), the young artist multiplies her influences even if it means spreading herself too thin and sometimes falling into mimicry (“Good Graces” offers a sweet R&B very Ariana Grande). But, far from her somewhat different “Espresso”, she shows in passing another more mature side, less smooth with a more embodied vocal signature. Thus, the album lacks power, but Sabrina Carpenter explores other less immediate (and sometimes interesting) avenues, like on the country “Slim Pickins”, the acoustic “Sharpest Tool”, the little pop hit “Juno”, the vaporous “Don’t Smile” or the old school R&B “Bed Chem”.
