Russia suspends import of frozen Moroccan fish

The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Roselkhoznadzor) announced, in a statement on its official website, the suspension of the import of frozen fish from Morocco to the Kaliningrad region, due to a veterinary inspection operation conducted on two batches of frozen fish coming from the Kingdom, with a total weight of more than 56 tons, at the Baltiysk port checkpoint.

The same authority confirmed that this monitoring process resulted in “the discovery of an error in the veterinary certificate of the exporting country, as officials recorded that the data related to the production date included on the labels of fish products did not match the data specified in the documents and papers accompanying these shipments.”

The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision indicated that “samples of these products were taken and sent to the Kaliningrad branch of the Federal Center for Animal Health, to investigate the safety indicators of the product in question.” It also decided to suspend the import of fish from the Kingdom of Morocco.
