Italian press reacts to Algerian shenanigans

The Italian press has reacted to the latest twist in the Algerian saga. The Italian news site “Informazione.it” highlighted the recent events of the Tokyo International Forum on African Development (TICAD). The portal pointed out that this preparatory meeting, which took place in the Japanese capital last Friday and Saturday, was marked by a notable diplomatic incident. A separatist who had illegally infiltrated the Algerian delegation brandished a placard bearing the inscription of the ghostly “Sahrawi Republic”.

The newspaper said that the display of the sign without permission provoked an immediate reaction from Japanese representatives, who reaffirmed their non-recognition of the alleged ” Sahrawi Republic “They also clarified that the presence of its representatives at the international conference on African development in Tokyo does not influence Japan’s position in any way.

Furthermore, the article notes that Algeria’s attitude in Tokyo has not only tarnished its image, but also that of Africa as a whole, and has revealed the weakness of the so-called ” Sahrawi Republic “This is particularly visible after several countries supported Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara and others no longer support the false idea of the “right to self-determination” promoted by Algerian theses even though Algeria denies this right to the Kabyles and other populations.

The Italian newspaper highlights that the events in Japan confirm that the “polisario ” is a creation of Algeria, aimed at exacerbating a fictitious conflict against Morocco. This situation is reflected in the emphasis placed by the Algerian presidential campaign on supporting this invented conflict, rather than on the real problems of the Algerian people, the majority of whom are affected by poverty.

In short, informazione.it recommends that Algeria and its leaders focus on their internal affairs and resolve them through investments and potential contracts resulting from the TICAD meetings, rather than provoking a non-existent conflict.

As usual, elements of the Polisario attempted to infiltrate a preparatory meeting for the TICAD Africa-Japan summit scheduled for next year. Members of the separatist front managed to access the meeting room using Algerian diplomatic passports.

A widely circulated video shows a Polisario member holding a placard reading: Sahrawi Republic ” from a bag before the Moroccan delegation present at the meeting protested against this intrusion and manipulation.

In fact, the behavior of the separatist front under the cover of Algeria seeks to create a crisis between Morocco and Japan through a “opportunistic diplomacy“based on the falsification of facts and manipulation to obtain illusory victories.

On the same day, Algerian media continued to report on the Polisario’s participation in the summit, despite their expulsion, leading to a diplomatic scandal for the failing regime.

Japan also expressed its rejection and condemnation of the participation of the Secretary-General of the Polisario Front in the 8th TICAD Summit, which was held on August 27-28, 2022 in Tunis. At the first plenary session, the Japanese delegation stressed that TICAD is a forum for discussing development in Africa, specifying that the presence of any entity not recognized by Japan as a sovereign state at TICAD Summit meetings, including the Senior Officials’ Meetings and the Summit, does not change Japan’s position.

Japan’s position has been reaffirmed on several occasions: invitations to participate in the summit, which should have been sent exclusively and jointly by Tunisia and Japan, were addressed only to countries officially recognized by Tokyo and not subject to African Union sanctions.

The host country therefore presented the Japanese delegation with a fait accompli by sending a unilateral invitation to the separatist entity, which seriously damaged the spirit of seriousness and calm expected during this crucial meeting for the Africa-Japan partnership.

Japan had officially confirmed on August 19, 2022 its categorical refusal of the invitation addressed by the African Union Commission to the Polisario Front to attend the summit, in violation of established procedures, specifying that this invitation did not commit it in any way. However, Tunisia, as the host country, did not take into account the refusal expressed by Japan.

In response, Morocco decided not to participate in the summit and recalled its ambassador to Tunisia for consultations, after Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed officially welcomed the leader of the Algerian-funded separatist militia, Brahim Ghali, at Tunis-Carthage International Airport.
