Three minors sentenced to suspended prison sentences for assault of high school student broadcast on the internet

In early January, a high school student was attacked by five other minors in Le Havre. The incident was filmed and posted on social media. This Tuesday, three of the accused were sentenced to prison.

Three minors were sentenced this Tuesday, September 3, to 18 months in prison, suspended, by the juvenile court of Le Havre for the violent attack on a high school student, filmed and broadcast on social networks last January.

The sentence of two teenage girls is accompanied by a probationary suspension for two years with provisional execution including in particular a ban on contact with the victim and an obligation of psychological care, the public prosecutor of Le Havre, Bruno Dieudonné, told AFP.

The third minor was sentenced to 18 months of suspended imprisonment, he said.

Two other minors set for September 17

In total, five girls, aged 15 or 16 at the time, were found guilty of the attack in February 2024, following a lengthy hearing held behind closed doors.

The last two minors will be given their sentences at a sentencing hearing scheduled for September 17. The five teenagers were prosecuted in particular for group violence and death threats.

The court also accused them of having distributed the images of the attack, during which the victim was partially undressed, considering that they were intended to deliberately “harm the integrity of the person”, which was described at the time by the prosecution as “happy slapping” (filmed attack).
