A tornado passes through a village and causes damage to several houses

A tornado hit the village of Saint-Antoine in Doubs on Tuesday, causing several material damages. Firefighters intervened to secure the roofs.

A phenomenon that surprised the inhabitants. A tornado crossed the village of Saint-Antoine, in Doubs not far from the Swiss border, this Tuesday, September 3, reports France 3 Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.

The scene was filmed and broadcast on the social network X by the Météo Franc-Comtoise account, which refers to an “orographic storm”, a type of storm found on the reliefs. According to this specialized account, the wind gusts reached 150 km/h.

“We saw the sky completely black, and the wind picked up very quickly. I couldn’t even open my door,” Brigitte Prêtre, mayor of Saint-Antoine, told France 3. “It’s the first time we’ve seen that in the village, it was very impressive,” she added.

A blown up shed

According to images from the Météo Franc-Comtoise account, the tornado damaged several houses, one of which had its roof largely torn off. “A large number of tiles fell, there are three big holes in the roof,” the mayor continued to the regional channel, specifying that the firefighters intervened to secure the roofs. The tornado also blew away a wooden shed, which completely collapsed.

The Doubs department was placed on yellow alert for storms this Tuesday, like a large part of eastern France.
