Here are the new rates for the most popular destinations in September

Most of the most sought-after destinations this fall are seeing prices fall, due to lower than expected demand.

Good news for holidaymakers leaving in September. This clientele of “Septembrists”, very fond of last-minute departures depending on price opportunities, benefits from a wide range of choices for this 2024 back-to-school season. Because after long months of soaring prices, aviation prices are starting to fall. Not to all destinations, of course, and the declines are calculated on the high base of last September. But still, and as the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) noted this summer, the average price of international flights departing from France is returning to more affordable levels. “Supply sometimes exceeds demand, forcing companies to cut their margins”analyzes Guillaume Rostand, spokesperson for Liligo. “This is not necessarily good news on the economic front, but the tourism figures this summer are contrasting with the political context, the Olympic Games… The companies have had difficulty calibrating their offer and were generally expecting more passengers. Not to mention that a whole class of French people are now depriving themselves of travel.”he adds.

The online price comparison tool has established for The Figaro the ranking of the cheapest destinations for this month of September, and the average prices observed towards the most popular cities and airports. Result? In both cases and with the exception of the very trendy Valletta, which is benefiting from a breath of fresh air for language stays in Malta, all the lights are green. An adult return ticket in “economy class” and excluding supplements (luggage… to the great displeasure of customers who complain about the jungle of prices) costs for example less than €80 to Milan, gateway to the lakes region in Italy. Travel to Lisbon, a destination adored by the French, has dropped by 35%. Even long-haul flights like Montreal, with the prospect of the flamboyant Canadian autumn, are seeing prices calm down. “However, these average prices remain higher than the pre-Covid period.”analyzes the specialist who points out to date a lack of visibility for the future.

“The top requests are changing littlenotes Guillaume Rostand. We find the sun destinations, from southern Europe and the Maghreb countries, in particular». The highly sought-after Marrakech is experiencing a modest decline (-4% to €151 on average), unlike the more pronounced drops in Porto or Palma de Mallorca. And be careful, not all prices are nose-diving, far from it: the bill continues to climb towards Sicily and Palermo (+50% to €201). The only certainty: for those who are leaving in the next few days, comparing prices can finally lead to some good deals.
