Cyclist killed by Lamborghini, driver in custody

A black rental vehicle hit a cyclist on Sunday, September 1 near Avignon. The driver and his passenger then fled on foot.

A 51-year-old cyclist died after being hit by a rented black Lamborghini on Sunday, September 1, the prosecutor of Avignon (Vaucluse) told BFMTV, confirming information from Dauphiné Libéré.

Around 1:30 p.m., a witness heard a loud noise and saw a black Lamborghini spinning on a highway. The driver had lost control of the car. The car apparently hit a cyclist who was riding on the side of the road.

After the accident, the driver of the car and his passenger immediately fled on foot. The cyclist died as a result of the impact.

An investigation opened

Later in the afternoon, around 3:30 p.m., the fleeing driver was brought by his father to the Avignon police station. He was immediately taken into custody and is still there this Monday afternoon, the Avignon prosecutor assured.

The 25-year-old man is already known to the police and did not have a driving license. While the young passenger, aged 15, was slightly injured in the accident but was not totally incapacitated for work (ITT).

An investigation has been opened by the public prosecutor’s office for involuntary manslaughter by the driver of a motor vehicle, hit and run, lack of a driving license, unintentional injuries and failure to provide assistance.
