Stabbed teenager finds attacker in same high school as him in Avignon

As several million students began their school year on Monday, September 2, a 15-year-old high school student in Avignon was assigned to the same high school as the one who stabbed him a year ago.

A situation that should never have happened. This Monday, September 2, Julien (whose first name has been changed, Editor’s note), 15, started school in Avignon (Vaucluse) in the same high school as his attacker who had stabbed him several times a year ago.

“I’m very stressed, I’m scared. I stayed locked in my room for three days, I don’t feel safe,” the young man told BFMTV.

“A second sentence”

“I really thought I would start high school normally with my friends. It’s impossible to do it normally with my attacker in the same high school as me,” the high school student continued.

For the victim’s mother, the situation is unacceptable. For several months, she has been sounding the alarm at the Aix-Marseille academy in order, according to her, to avoid a new tragedy.

“It’s not up to the victim to leave. It’s not up to the victim to have a second sentence,” she says.

“I wrote a final letter to the academy where I explained to them that if anything happened, I held them responsible, because they have been receiving emails and letters for months and they are doing nothing,” she denounced.

In 2023, while he was at his ex-girlfriend’s home, Julien was injured in the chest and thigh, and was forced to be transported by helicopter to the Marseille University Hospital.

Julien’s attacker, also a minor at the time of the events, had been arrested and placed under judicial supervision. But pending a trial, the Aix-Marseille academy does not wish to take any action against him.

“There is a judicial review and a second ban on going to the town where they both reside, but which was lifted to allow registration at the high school,” said the victim’s lawyer.

While waiting for a new decision from the academy, Julien and his family are still living in worry. The educational staff has been informed of the situation.
