books soon to be adapted into an animated series

Children’s novels 20, Dance Alleyabout the daily lives of young dancers at the Paris Opera dance school, will be adapted into an animated series by France Télévisions and German national television ZDF.

The best-selling novels “20, allée de la Danse”, about the lives and worries of the little rats of the Paris Opera, will be adapted into an animated series for France Télévisions and German national television ZDF, its production company announced on Monday.

Since 2016, Elizabeth Barféty’s twenty or so children’s books, published by Nathan, have been a success in France and Europe. They have already been adapted into comics.

20, Dance Alley narrates the daily life of young dancers, between performances, joys and sorrows, friendships and betrayals.

“Ultra-realistic” dance scenes

Also addressing themes such as diversity and inclusion, the animated series will focus on the character of Maya, 11, who leaves Martinique to join the prestigious Paris Opera Ballet School.

In pre-production, it will include “ultra-realistic dance scenes performed in motion capture by professional dancers,” according to a press release from Cottonwood Media, the company that creates it.

Intended for 6-11 year olds, 20, Dance Alley is produced in partnership with the Paris National Opera. When it is ready – probably not before 2026 – the series will also be broadcast in Belgium, where RTBF has already pre-purchased it.
