The dynamics of the Olympic Games did not only benefit Paris

500,000 travelers were welcomed via the platform during the Olympic Games, according to the head of Airbnb France, who welcomed “the dynamics of the host cities but also of the towns around Paris such as Saint-Ouen, Aubervilliers or Montreuil.”

“There was a very strong effect of the Olympic Games.” When it came time to take stock of the Olympic Games, and in the middle of the Paralympic Games, Clément Eulry, CEO of Airbnb in France, was delighted on Monday, September 2, on Radio Classique, with a large number of reservations.

“Half a million travelers have been welcomed by Airbnb in Île-de-France,” says the boss of Airbnb.

“There was this dynamic of host cities but also and especially of the towns around Paris like Saint-Ouen, Aubervilliers, Montreuil”, he continues. Towns traditionally less frequented by travelers.

Among the 20 cities that experienced the strongest growth in searches for the summer period, 7 are in the Paris region: Saint-Ouen, Asnières, Clichy, Courbevoie, Saint-Cloud, Montreuil and Aubervilliers.

+ 1,000 euros for owners

In total, “tens of thousands of owners have seized the opportunity to rent their accommodation on Airbnb”. And the numerous reservations have allowed them to earn “more than 1,000 euros” during the period, according to Clément Eulry.

As for those who were unable to rent their apartment, it was because it was too expensive.

“It’s a healthy market: the supply has increased significantly, so prices have not exploded. Hosts who have kept their prices reasonable have rented out their accommodation,” he concludes.

The occupancy rate of tourist rentals in Paris reached 62% during these Games, more than in 2023 despite the surge in the number of advertisements, according to AirDNA, a firm which analyses data from several platforms (Airbnb, Abritel, etc.).

Finally, on the occasion of the Paralympic Games, Airbnb is pleased to now offer “more than 1,000 single-storey accommodations in the Paris region, which are accessible to people with reduced mobility during the Paralympics and beyond”.

Furthermore, “one in ten travellers who stayed in Paris” during the Games in an Airbnb accommodation “made another stay in France after the closing ceremony”, the platform indicated.
