Olivier Faure calls for unity of the left for the 2027 presidential election, without excluding the possibility that the Socialist Party could “go alone”

The first secretary of the Socialist Party (PS), Olivier Faure, pleaded, on Saturday August 31, for a single candidacy of the left in the 2027 presidential election, while warning that in the absence of« union »the socialists will go it alone.

In front of an audience that supported his cause, but in the absence of his opponents Carole Delga, President of Occitanie, Hélène Geoffroy, Mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin, and Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, Mayor of Rouen, the Seine-et-Marne MP challenged his partners in the New Popular Front: “We are both ready to go alone, as we are ready to go with them. Everything will now depend on how each of us behaves.”

“If the path exists, then we will be at the rendezvous of unity for the presidential election of 2027. But if this path does not exist because the behaviors do not allow it” and that “The battle of egos is back”SO “we will leave alone”.

“Unity is cultivated”he continued, assuring that“there will be no[it] not a blog post to tell us which way is which, not a tweet to tell us which way is which”in a tackle on the leader of La France Insoumise, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who often shares his comments, analyses or criticisms through these different channels.

If the choice of a candidate “must go through a primary, it will go through a primary”he added, assuring that there would be no “no self-proclaimed candidacy”more “a common process that leads to victory”.

He also called on activists to be proud and “ready” for the new electoral deadlines. “Now that we are back in Ligue 1. Get ready to attack the Champions League”he hammered home. “If there are no socialists, there is no New Popular Front” et “There is no hope of governing”he said, asserting that “the balance of the left passes through [le PS] ».

Returning to the internal debates within his party around the strategy towards Emmanuel Macron, who is still looking for a prime minister, he warned: “we want to govern”more “not under any conditions”calling for “give back a central place” to the PS. “How could we imagine for a single moment that we could become that force again if we are the breakers of the left?” et “of the dream born from the election of July 7?”he asked.
