Pressed by MPs, resigning Minister of Public Accounts assures that deadlines will be met

The resigning Minister of Public Accounts, Thomas Cazenave, stated on Saturday August 31 in an interview with Parisian, that the deadlines for preparing the state budget would be met. He also confirmed that this year’s revenues were less good than expected.

As deadlines for preparing the state budget become tight, parliamentarians have threatened to conduct investigations themselves at Bercy if certain documents are not communicated to them by Monday.

“Eric Coquerel and Charles de Courson [rapporteur général du budget, groupe Liot] asked us for elements for September 2 in a letter received this summer and they will have them”assured Mr. Cazenave. “I had the opportunity to tell them and, without waiting for this deadline, they received the first elements in mid-August with the detailed amount of the credits placed in reserve. Parliament is informed at each stage”the resigning minister defended himself again.

Thomas Cazenave further confirmed that, for 2024, “on certain receipts, the collections are, at this stage, a little below what we anticipated”He attributes this in particular to “new expenditure that was not planned, particularly for support for New Caledonia” and to “the very sharp increase in local authority spending”.

The draft finance bill (PLF) must be submitted to Parliament by October 1 at the latest, and be voted on and published before January 1.
