TikTok is no longer downloadable, smartphones that still have the app are selling at crazy prices

“Selling iPhone 15 Pro, for the (modest) sum of 13,997 dollars”. This type of ad is currently flourishing on eBay in the United States. And almost all the devices on sale (with prices always inflated, but not necessarily as prohibitive) find buyers, notes the Dexerto site. What do they have in common? All are offered with the TikTok application, which it is no longer possible to download in the United States since January 18.

As soon as he was invested, Donald Trump suspended the ban on TikTok by decree by offering it additional time for the sale of its American activities, as a court decision obliged him to do. But the application stores do not offer the possibility of downloading it. “TikTok and other Byte Dance applications are not available in the country or region where you are located,” writes the App Store.

The fear of a hefty fine for application stores

Same thing on the Play store side: “Downloads of this application are suspended due to current legal requirements in the United States”. Both Google and Apple are suspicious: before Donald Trump’s intervention, the courts provided for a fine of 5,000 euros per download for application stores.

Users who had TikTok on their phone before January 19 can continue to use it. However, those who do not yet have it or who have uninstalled it can no longer download it. What the smart guys have understood to resell these laptops at a high price.

The story recalls another. That of the Flappy Bird app (do you remember this addictive and unbearable game?) which had a stunning success in 2014 with millions of downloads in a few days… before its developer, Dong Nguyen, decided to remove it from the sale.
