Born in Vancouver, Canada, Anna Cathcart appeared in TV series and commercials from the age of eight. After the film “Descendance 2” on Disney Channel, she was hired at 14 to play Kitty, the little sister of the heroine of the films “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” before becoming the star of the spin-off -off “XO, Kitty.” It was during the premiere of “Squid Game 2” in Los Angeles in December 2024 that the actress answered our questions. Season 2 of “XO, Kitty” is available on Netflix.
How can you summarize your series for those who don’t know it yet?
Kitty is a young American who decides to go to South Korea to discover her origins, the history of her mother and that of her family of which she knew nothing. “XO, Kitty” is the sequel to the “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” trilogy, but you don’t need to have seen those films to understand the episodes in the series.
Between the films and the series, you’ve been playing this character for seven years, has Kitty rubbed off on you?
I don’t know if it’s her who resembles me or vice versa, but I believe that, like her, I have a big heart. The difference is that we don’t express our feelings in the same way. Kitty lets her love guide her without sometimes taking the time to think before acting, at the risk of finding herself in complex situations. I know that’s what our fans like, because many have written to me that Kitty has helped them not be afraid to express themselves without a filter. I try to be as free and passionate myself, but I am much more discreet and reserved than the one I play in front of the cameras.
The appearance of Noah Centineo in this second season is no secret. What can you tell us about it?
-All fans remember Peter Kavinsky, who plays Noah in “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before”, he’s a bit like Kitty’s big brother since he’s been her sister Lara Jean’s boyfriend for a long time. . So it’s great that these two characters meet again years later far from home in South Korea. And personally, I have always considered Noah my mentor. He encouraged me from the first day we met and continues to support me over the years.
The 3rd season of “XO, Kitty” has already been confirmed, but do you have other projects in your career between now and then?
When I celebrated my 21st birthday a few months ago, I made the decision to take a break from my studies to devote myself completely to my career. I don’t yet know what the future holds for me in that regard, but I can’t wait to discover the projects that will cross my path, even if I don’t intend to turn my back on Kitty, because I owe her so much. wonderful things.
Could Kitty be in the next season of “Squid Game” since you love this series?
I’m a huge fan of “Squid Game”, because it’s full of unexpected twists and turns. But seeing Kitty win “Squid Game”, I very much doubt it (laughing). She’s too impulsive, which is definitely not a good quality when you’re risking your life in a game.
