More than a million taxpayers wrongly taxed via the tax administration's online service, according to the Court of Auditors

The French state had to reimburse more than 1.3 billion euros to taxpayers following a bug in the Manage my real estate platform.

The tax administration's online service, Manage my real estate, suffered a bug during the 2023 declaration. “More than a million taxpayers have been wrongly taxed with housing tax or tax on vacant housing,” reports the Court of Auditors, in a report published Thursday January 23.

The “GMBI” service allows property owners to declare the identity of the occupants as well as the rents for their rented properties. The bug, which occurred during the 2023 declaration, caused “very heavy financial consequences for the State”, continues the financial jurisdiction. The French state had to reimburse more than 1.3 billion euros to taxpayers.
