The Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) opened a new medico-legal consultation for adult victims of violence (CMLV) at the beginning of the year. This structure is more secure than the Emergency Department for collecting detailed accounts from victims.
The new CMLV is attached to the Romand University Center for Legal Medicine (CURML). It is inspired by a similar system at the Vaud University Hospital Center (CHUV): the Violence Medicine Unit which has existed since 2006, the HUG indicated on Thursday.
Located near the Adult Emergency Department, the CMLV plans to accommodate approximately 600 consultations per year. Free and confidential, this consultation is aimed at any adult victim of violence, whether community, marital or family.
-‘Violence is a public health problem’, noted head doctor Nathalie Romain-Glassey, responsible for the Vaud and Geneva systems. The CMLV is independent of a complaint being filed, insisted the manager.
