The Mozambican opponent Venancio Mondlane made public, Tuesday evening, January 21, a document that he considers to be his first “presidential decree”. The unsuccessful candidate in the October 9 election still claims victory. In a video on his social networks, he stages the signing of a text which proposes 30 measures to be implemented over the next 100 days.
On a desk in the colors of the Mozambique flag, in a suit, Venancio Mondlane affixes the stamp of the “People’s Republic” to the document. Several measures promised by the former presidential candidate aim to fight against police violence.
Venancio Mondlane asks the Mozambicans in particular to constitute an “autonomous tribunal” and to “pronounce convictions” against the units he considers responsible for a “macabre wave of summary executions”.
The opponent goes further. To counter this police violence, he decreed “the law of retaliation […] as a right to self-defense. Venancio Mondlane also calls for the release of 4,000 detainees, arrested during the post-election demonstrations, as well as free healthcare and financial support for victims of police violence.
