Sexual sadist: 25 years in prison for the “Tinder rapist”

A sexual sadist who drugged 13 women, most of whom he met online, in order to rape them without their knowledge while he filmed them received an unprecedented sentence of 25 years in prison, in addition to being given the label of long-term offender.

«It is a historic sentence. What the women and I experienced should never happen. No one should ever experience this,” said one of the victims, relieved, as she left the courtroom on Wednesday at the Montreal courthouse.

Judge Pierre Dupras had just sentenced Samuel Moderie to 25 years in prison. This was the suggestion made by the Crown prosecutor, Mr.e Jérôme Laflamme.

“It is a fair sentence and representative of the seriousness of the offenses committed. The voice of the victims is heard by the courts, it is valued at its fair value,” he commented.

13 victims

Moderie, nicknamed the “Tinder rapist”, had confessed to having made 13 victims in just a few months, starting in July 2022. After meeting a prey on the dating sites Tinder, Badoo or JALF, he went to her house, where he drugged her with benzodiazepines, sedatives.

This chemical submission entailed “extraordinary” dangers, according to Judge Dupras.

When the woman became unconscious, Moderie began filming her being raped and humiliated in various ways, each more degrading than the last.

Some victims did not know they had been sexually assaulted by Moderie until investigators contacted them. Others have, to date, never been able to be identified.

“I have the impression of having been a puppet, a piece of waste that can be manipulated… It haunts me…”, another victim told the court during observations on the sentence last October. .

Sadist and voyeur

In one report, the 29-year-old is described as a sexual sadist and voyeur who carried out his crimes “with planning and predation”, and was at high risk of reoffending.

“We are probably dealing with cold, thoughtful aggression, seeking total control over the victim through deception and manipulation,” it says.

Samuel Moderie, who was sentenced to two years of detention in 2018 in a similar case, was therefore declared a long-term offender for a period of 10 years. This label will be effective upon his release from the penitentiary.

The defense, represented by Me Robert Bellefeuille believed that these heinous crimes deserved a sentence of 15 years. This suggestion “evacuates the objective seriousness and the large number of the offenses in question”, according to Judge Dupras.

“This individual has no regrets, has no empathy for others, at least for women,” said one of his victims before leaving the courthouse.
