After gaining nearly 19 million new subscribers in recent weeks, Netflix is increasing the prices of its packages in several countries, including Canada.
The basic service with advertisements will increase by $2, to $7.99 per month. The one without advertisements will increase by $2.50 and the consumer will have to pay $18.99 per month.
As for the premium plan, the user will have to pay $23.99 per month, or $3 more than currently. There is no change in fees for adding an additional member.
The new prices will be applied immediately for new subscribers, while old subscribers will see it on their next bill.
-Netflix welcomed 18.9 million new members due to several exclusives such as the boxing fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, as well as the presentation of NFL matches on Christmas Day. These two events broke audience records in their respective disciplines.
According to experts, Netflix could increase its revenues by $2 billion this year, an increase of 16% compared to last year. In 2023, the streaming company had revenues of US$10.2 billion.
